Gender discrimination, which continues to hinder far too many women, ultimately holds back progress for us all. Achieving gender equality and empowering women are intrinsic to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-5). By ensuring the rights of women and girls across all aspects of these goals, we pave the way for justice, inclusivity, thriving economies, and the sustainability of our shared environment for present and future generations.

Nobel laureate Claudia Goldin identifies the gender gap as stemming from a complex interplay of factors beyond mere discrimination, including dynamics of supply and demand, advancements in education, and the disproportionate burden of unpaid care work on women.
