Education : Equity & Quality

National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP) envisions a massive transformation in education through– “an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming India, that is Bharat, sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, by providing high quality education to all, thereby making India a global knowledge superpower.”

In India, the education system confronts considerable hurdles, foremost among them being glaring inequalities. While certain students achieve global recognition for their prowess, a significant portion of primary school students lack fundamental literacy and numeracy skills, falling behind even by third-grade standards. Furthermore, the prevalent emphasis on exams and grades perpetuates a culture of rote learning, prioritizing exam success over fostering genuine comprehension applicable to practical situations.
Our primary objective is to elevate the quality of the public education system through capacity building, data-driven governance, and evidence-based research and advocacy efforts.

Code on Demand

Code on Demand is a mobile-van-based computer science (CS) lab initiative led by Edignite Foundation in collaboration with Leadership For Skilled Education Foundation (LFE) .The project aims to bring 21st-century skills to 500 students from grades 5 to 7 in rural Maharashtra in Nagpur district. Through this traveling lab, students gain hands-on experience with coding, helping them tell community-based stories and develop essential skills like creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

The program also focuses on building capacity among 50 teachers, introducing them to the basics of coding and how to integrate it into existing subjects. Additionally, 50 volunteers will engage in fieldwork to facilitate workshops. These efforts aim to increase awareness and engagement around computer science among students, teachers, and community stakeholders.

The Key components Code on Demand include creating training modules, deploying a specially equipped vehicle to rural communities, and collecting impact data. The program aspires to build an ecosystem that not only introduces students to technology but also empowers them to pursue future opportunities in a rapidly digitising world.

Women: Livelihood & Empowerment

Women not only bear the brunt of these challenges but also harbor the insights and leadership necessary to overcome them. Gender discrimination, which continues to hinder far too many women, ultimately holds back progress for us all. Achieving gender equality and empowering women are intrinsic to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-5). By ensuring the rights of women and girls across all aspects of these goals, we pave the way for justice, inclusivity, thriving economies, and the sustainability of our shared environment for present and future generations.

Nobel laureate Claudia Goldin identifies the gender gap as stemming from a complex interplay of factors beyond mere discrimination, including dynamics of supply and demand, advancements in education, and the disproportionate burden of unpaid care work on women. She underscores the importance of policy reforms such as affordable childcare and flexible work arrangements, alongside cultural shifts that address the demanding nature of work schedules disadvantaging women who juggle careers and family responsibilities.
Our primary focus lies in empowering women through comprehensive leadership training, entrepreneurship initiatives, and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. Additionally, we place greater emphasis on evidence-based research and advocacy endeavors in the realms of women’s development.

Policy: Research and Advocacy

We recognize the challenge of inaccurate, insufficiently detailed, and outdated data, caused by underinvestment in measurement infrastructure, affecting governance and public spending quality. Our aim is to provide timely, actionable feedback to empower decision-makers with reliable insights, facilitating effective policy and program adjustments. Leveraging advancements in data collection, especially digital technologies such as AI, ML, and Data Science, will result in minimal investment to drastically improve the system’s data architecture, promising transformative impacts. Our core focus lies in establishing systems to generate accurate, timely data, optimizing human resource management, budget expenditure, and policy refinement. We advocate for rapid adjustments based on comprehensive data analysis and research, ensuring agility and effectiveness in decision-making.
